Families across the Isle of Wight can enjoy a week of hands-on history and creative fun this October half term — with special £1 family activities at two of the Island’s most-loved museums.
Organised by the Isle of Wight Council’s Heritage Service, the sessions promise something for everyone — from dino lovers to budding archaeologists!
🦖 Dinosaur Isle on the Road – Museum of Island History, Newport
Although Dinosaur Isle in Sandown is currently closed for essential maintenance, the museum is hitting the road with a special pop-up event at the Museum of Island History in Newport.
📅 Tuesday 28 & Thursday 30 October, 10am – 2pm
Visitors can:
Explore the prehistoric world of the Isle of Wight’s dinosaurs
Handle real local fossils
Create their own dinosaur diorama to take home
Browse a pop-up dinosaur shop for gifts and souvenirs

🏛️ Clay Days at Newport Roman Villa
Over at Newport Roman Villa, families can step back in time with Clay Days — creative sessions inspired by ancient Roman life.
📅 Wednesday 22 & 29 October, 10am – 2pm
Explore the villa’s ruins, follow a Roman gods and goddesses picture trail, and sculpt your own Roman shrine or offering from clay.
Museum curator Dr Rachel Tait said:
“We’re delighted to offer these fun and educational activities for families during the half term.
"Whether you’re fascinated by dinosaurs or intrigued by Roman life, there’s something for everyone to enjoy — it’s a great way to explore the Island’s rich heritage.”
🎟️ No booking is required, and all activities are included in the £1 entry fee per person.
