Motorists are facing significant delays on key routes across the Isle of Wight this morning (Thursday), following separate incidents in Whiterails Road and Blackwater.
Emergency services were called to a vehicle fire on Whiterails Road at around 08:15.
It’s understood that one pumping appliance from Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service attended the scene.
The vehicle involved, a BMW X1, has been left with extensive fire damage.
Traffic in both directions is heavily affected, with the situation worsened as the road is currently being used as a main diversion route due to the ongoing Fairlee Road works.
Elsewhere, there are also major delays in Blackwater following a separate incident involving a broken-down vehicle outside Wight Building Materials.
Traffic between Blackwater and Arreton, heading towards Newport, is reported to be extremely heavy.
Drivers are being advised to avoid the affected areas where possible while the incidents are dealt with.
Meanwhile, Southern Vectis has confirmed that Routes 5 and 9 are diverting via Long Lane and Downend until further notice.
