Traffic Chaos in Wootton After Car and Van Collision

A car and van collision in Wootton is causing major traffic disruption this lunchtime (Thursday), with one vehicle reported to have come to rest on its side.
The crash happened outside The Sloop at Wootton Bridge, between Newport and Ryde, just before 11.55am.
Emergency services – including police, fire, and ambulance – are on the scene, helping the occupants of the overturned vehicle.
The road is closed in both directions between Brannon Way (by Tesco Express) and Firestone Copse Road.
Traffic is heavy on Lushington Hill, Briddlesford Road, and Firestone Copse, with usual diversion routes affected by other local closures.
Motorists are advised to avoid the area and expect delays.
UPDATE 2pm:
A spokesperson for Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary said:
"We were called at 11.52am today (14 August) to a report of a two-vehicle road traffic collision on Kite Hill, Wootton Bridge.
"A man in his 70s has been taken to hospital to receive treatment.
"The road has been closed from Brannon Way to Fishbourne Lane to allow the emergency services to deal with the incident."
A spokesperson for Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire Service added:
"Crews from Ryde and East Cowes have been called to a road traffic collision on Kite Hill in Wootton.
"Firefighters were alerted shortly before midday and are working alongside police and ambulance teams."
