An ambitious charity cycle ride stretching from Ryde to Freshwater is set to raise money for a host of Isle of Wight good causes this week.

The 18.5-mile fundraiser has been organised by colleagues from Tesco, with 10 cyclists due to take part in the challenge on Thursday (21 May).

Riders will be supported by an open-top bus decorated with flags and bunting as they make their way across the Island.

Funds raised will benefit a number of charities and community groups including Aspire, Isle of Wight Foodbank, Cats Protection, Men in Sheds, WightSAR, The Wight Brainy Bunch, Wildheart Animal Sanctuary and Wessex Cancer Support.

Jan Gibson, Community Champion at Tesco Ryde Extra, said:

“We’ve done so many fundraising events for charities on the Isle of Wight, but this is definitely the biggest.
“We wanted to do something big for good causes local to us.”

Seven Tesco colleagues and three charity representatives will take part in the ride, which begins at 10am, with organisers hoping to raise as much money as possible for the organisations involved.

The challenge will conclude with medal presentations and celebrations for those taking part.
