Voters in the Chale, Niton and Shorwell ward will have a choice of three candidates at the Isle of Wight Council elections on May 7.
Current councillor Claire Critchison, who represents the Green Party, is seeking re-election and faces challenges from Conservative candidate Anne Bishop and Reform UK’s Mark Nigh.
Candidates were invited to submit short statements outlining their priorities ahead of polling day.
Anne Bishop (Local Conservatives)
Anne Bishop says she has lived on the Isle of Wight since 1983, raising her family and running a small hotel for 26 years.
With a background connected to both local business and farming, she highlights her understanding of rural life.
She says she wants to see a well-run council, with reliable services, careful spending and strong engagement with residents, while protecting the Island’s countryside, including its bridleways and cycle routes.
Claire Leah Critchison (Green Party, incumbent councillor)
Claire Critchison has represented the ward for the past five years and has served as both vice chair and chair of the Isle of Wight Council, as well as sitting on the planning committee.
She continues to be involved in the local community through her role on Niton and Whitwell Parish Council and runs her own catering business, alongside family life in Niton.
Mark Nigh (Reform UK)
