Thalia Waste Management is set to step away from its multi-million-pound contract to provide waste collection and treatment services on the Isle of Wight, with the council now working to secure a new operator to keep services running.
The Isle of Wight Council has confirmed that it has agreed with Thalia Waste Management Limited to transfer responsibility for waste collection and treatment to a new service provider from 1 April 2026.
A council spokesperson said residents should not be concerned about disruption, adding that bin collections and waste disposal services will continue as normal throughout the transition period.
The spokesperson said:
“The Isle of Wight Council and Thalia Waste Management Limited have agreed to transfer the provision of waste collection and treatment services on the Isle of Wight to a new service provider, effective 1 April 2026.
“The council wishes to reassure residents that waste collection and disposal services will continue without interruption during this period.
“The council is in discussions with another national waste services company to manage waste services from 1 April.
"Further updates will be provided as and when they become available.”
Further details are expected to be released once arrangements with a new provider are confirmed.
