Isle of Wight Tesco shoppers are being encouraged to donate long-life food items to help families facing hunger this Christmas.
The annual Winter Food Collection supports local foodbanks and charities, including Trussell Trust and FareShare, both of which are expecting higher demand this year.
Last year, Isle of Wight customers donated generously, helping hundreds of families over the festive period.
Pre-packed donation bags, costing between £2 and £4, will be available in Tesco stores, filled with staple items such as cereal, oats, tinned soup, and beans.
Shoppers can pick up a bag in-store and donate it at the checkout.
The collection runs in Tesco Express stores from 24–29 November and in larger stores from 27–29 November.
Donations will be distributed by volunteers to local charities and foodbanks.
Foodbanks warn that demand continues to rise amid rising bills and winter costs.
Trussell Trust say a food parcel will need to be distributed every 10 seconds this winter to meet local need.
FareShare highlight that many families are being forced to choose between heating and eating, making community support more vital than ever.
Tesco UK CEO Ashwin Prasad said:
“With more families than ever needing help, we encourage customers to donate what they can. Together, we can make a big difference this winter.”
