St John Ambulance Volunteers Provide Support At Isle Of Wight County Show

St John Ambulance volunteers and cadets helped keep visitors safe at this year’s Royal Isle of Wight County Show, while also sharing lifesaving first aid skills with the public.

The charity provided medical cover throughout the 125th show at Northwood Showground, with Community First Aiders, Emergency Responders, healthcare professionals and cadets on hand across the site.

Foot patrol teams were supported by an ambulance crew and two healthcare professionals from the mainland, while St John Ambulance’s Community Support Unit acted as a control point to coordinate the response.

Alongside providing first aid support, volunteers delivered free demonstrations, giving visitors the chance to learn practical skills that could help in an emergency.

Isle of Wight County President Kay Marriott said the team’s presence helped improve safety at the event while promoting volunteering and encouraging more people to learn first aid.

She said:

“Their support helped enhance the safety of everyone attending the event, while also providing an opportunity to demonstrate lifesaving first aid skills, engage with the public, promote volunteering, support recruitment, and raise vital funds for the charity.”

St John Ambulance cadets also played a key role, helping with CPR and first aid demonstrations, supporting fundraising activities and working alongside adult volunteers.

The team was also visited by St John Ambulance’s Chief President, Kate Ware, who met volunteers and cadets and praised their contribution to the local community.

Speaking after the event, she said:

“I loved attending the IOW County Show and was so impressed with all of the events and stands on display; the combination of camels and tractors was a winning one!

“It was great to have St John Ambulance so visible throughout the show - providing a reassuring presence for all the visitors.

“Our volunteers love attending events such as this, working as a team giving First Aid cover, but also engaging with interested passers-by about volunteering or learning First Aid themselves.”

The Royal Isle of Wight County Show is one of the Island’s biggest agricultural and community events, with St John Ambulance continuing to support organisers in keeping visitors safe.
