Southgrove Road Repairs Move Closer After Two-Year Closure

There could be fresh hope of Southgrove Road in Ventnor fully reopening, more than two years after a wall collapse forced its long-term closure.

The Isle of Wight Council has now completed a Ground Investigation Report, examining the conditions around the affected area.

The authority is looking to bring in specialist contractors to design and carry out the repairs needed to the collapsed wall.

Southgrove Road remains closed between its junctions with Macrocarpa Road and Grove Road.

The council says earlier delays were caused by a lack of resources within its project management team, but that issue has now been resolved.

A surveyor had previously been brought in to assess the damage and establish what work would be required.

The council said last year that it had been unable to identify a clear owner of the collapsed wall.

It has stressed that reopening the road remains a priority and says the necessary repairs will allow full access to be restored.

No timescale for the reopening of Southgrove Road has yet been confirmed.
