Six Vehicles Destroyed In East Cowes Blaze
Six vehicles have been damaged or destroyed after a fire spread from a campervan to a house in East Cowes.
Firefighters were called to Kingston Road at around 3am today (Wednesday), where the blaze had started in a Transit campervan.
The fire spread to other vehicles, with six fire appliances sent to the scene.
An end-of-terrace house next to the campervan was also affected, suffering fire and smoke damage.
It's understood fuel running down the road helped the flames spread between the vehicles.
The fire was clearly visible from across the River Medina, with flames lighting up the sky during the early hours.
Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service said a large amount of smoke remained in the area and advised nearby residents to keep their doors and windows closed.
Crews remained at the scene for several hours tackling the fire and damping down the remains.
Emergency services stood down at around 8.12am.
The extent of the damage became clearer in daylight.
