Planning Decisions Include Holiday Let Refusal And Nail Salon Approval

Several notable planning applications have been decided by the Isle of Wight Council during September.

Plans to turn a converted garage into holiday accommodation at Sanbara on Chapel Lane in Merstone were rejected.

The application from Mr M. Dos Santos was refused on September 3, with concerns raised about noise and disturbance for neighbouring properties.

Arreton Parish Council had also objected, citing potential traffic and parking problems, noise, neighbourhood safety and concerns about the need for another holiday let.

Four days later, permission was granted for a nail salon to operate from a summerhouse in the garden of 59 Robin Hood Street in Newport.

The applicant, Kriszta Oltean Kis, had said only one customer would be seen at a time.

The council found the use would not have an adverse impact, but imposed conditions restricting opening hours and the level of activity.

Meanwhile, plans to demolish a building known as Salterns at Seaview Holiday Village were rejected on September 22.

The proposal from Saltern Ltd included replacing the building with a four-bedroom detached house.

Councillors and members of the public had objected, while the council said the size and design of the proposed development would have an unacceptable impact on the character of the area, neighbouring properties and the nearby Hersey Nature Reserve.
