A popular Sandown street cleaner has been recognised for a quarter of a century of dedicated service helping to keep the town looking its best.

Kenny Snudden, who works for Island Roads, was surprised with a special presentation on Sandown seafront to mark 25 years of service.

Representatives from a number of local organisations came together to thank Kenny for his efforts, presenting him with gifts including chocolates, plants, a certificate and a bottle of bubbly.

Among those taking part were Sandown Town Mayor Alex Lightfoot, members of Sandown Rotary, the Royal British Legion, Sandown Green Town Volunteers, Christ Church and Freeman of Sandown Heather Humby.

Presenting Kenny with a certificate and gift, Councillor Lightfoot said:

"We would like to thank Kenny for his hard work for the town over a quarter of a century.
"People like him make such a difference to how the town looks to residents and visitors."

Kenny, who was born in Ventnor and now lives in Sandown, said he was taken aback by the gesture.

"It's not what you expect when you come to work in the morning to have a presentation like this," he said.
"I was genuinely moved by the gifts. I love my job and being outside in this lovely town. Meeting lots of people is a bonus."

Island Roads Service Director Steve Ashman said all of the company's staff take pride in serving their local communities.

"We are really grateful that Sandown Town Council has pulled out all the stops to recognise Kenny's contribution," he said.
"Well done to Kenny. He really deserves this recognition."

Jez Mew, Island Roads' Environmental Services Manager, added:

"Kenny has spent 25 years working to keep Sandown clean and tidy and the tributes paid to him today show how much he is appreciated."
