Ryde School has received positive feedback across a number of key areas following a recent visit from the Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI).

The inspection, carried out in September and published last week, confirmed that the school met all statutory requirements.

Inspectors highlighted the school’s “wide-ranging and engaging” curriculum, its “highly effective” pastoral care, and its work to promote a culture of mutual respect.

Pupils, teachers and school leaders were all recognised for their contributions to the school environment.

Head Master Will Turner said the findings reflected the school community’s hard work.

“The school can take great pride in meeting all standards in this rigorous inspection,” he said.
“The result is validation of the continued dedication of our staff and governors and the hard work of our pupils.”

The ISI assessed areas including leadership, management, governance, quality of education, safeguarding, wellbeing and boarding.

Unlike Ofsted, the ISI does not issue an overall grade; instead it determines whether schools meet the Independent School Standards.

Inspectors reported that pupils behaved well and demonstrated values of respect and responsibility.

They noted that pupils were aware of the importance of equality and were thoughtful about their role within the school community. Staff were praised for supporting pupils’ emotional and mental wellbeing.

The report also acknowledged the school’s strong academic outcomes at GCSE, A-level and International Baccalaureate.

Teachers were described as knowledgeable and able to deliver well-structured, enjoyable lessons.

In the Early Years provision, staff were said to have a strong understanding of children’s needs and interests, helping younger pupils develop skills effectively across all areas of learning.

Core subjects including English, Maths and the Sciences were commended, as was the school’s “ambitious” Modern Languages curriculum, which introduces pupils to four different languages.

Ryde School said it was pleased that the report included only two recommendations for further improvement.

The full ISI report can be found on the school’s website.
