RSPCA Isle of Wight has received a £500 donation from Southern Vectis, helping the charity install a charging point for its electric van.

The van is used to collect animals, transport them to vets, and pick up food and supplies.

Steve Backhouse from the RSPCA said the electric vehicle not only supports the island’s animals and wildlife but also helps reduce environmental impact.

“We applied to Southern Vectis’ community fund for help to install our charging point and were delighted to receive £500,” he said.
“Christmas is always a busy time for us, but our team works hard year-round caring for some of the Island’s most vulnerable animals.
"We currently have 20 rabbits, 20 cats and eight dogs in our care.
"Some were mistreated or abandoned, while others were handed over because their owners could no longer look after them.
"We hope to find them all wonderful new homes and are grateful for the ongoing support from people across the Isle of Wight.”

RSPCA Isle of Wight relies entirely on donations from local individuals and businesses, needing to raise £750,000 annually to carry out its vital work.

Simon Moye, Southern Vectis operations manager, said:

“We know how crucial RSPCA Isle of Wight is, both for people and for animals.
"This is exactly the type of cause our community fund is designed to support.
"The donation also helps promote sustainable transport, which aligns with our own plans to install charging points for our new fleet of electric buses.”
