RSPCA Isle of Wight is calling on local businesses and organisations to take part in its upcoming Corporate Volunteer Day this summer.

The event, taking place on 12 June, will give teams the chance to support the charity’s work at the Island Animal Centre, with volunteers invited to spend a few hours helping out around the site and meeting some of the animals in care.

Steve Backhouse, Branch Director, says the day offers real benefits for both businesses and the community.

He said:

“Spending a few hours volunteering with your work colleagues can be an incredibly positive experience.
"As well as being fun and rewarding for those taking part, it’s a great way for local businesses to make a meaningful difference in their local community.
“As a local charity, we rely on support from across the Isle of Wight to continue our work with animals that need us most.”

Businesses have already begun to get involved, including Prospect Mortgages, whose team has volunteered at the centre.

Nick Rogers from the company said:

“As a small business based on the Island, we were keen to find a way to give something back to the community we work in.
"Additional human contact can make a big difference to the animals at the shelter, so arranging time off for our staff to help was something we felt could contribute to their overall quality of life.”

Founded in the 1950s, RSPCA Isle of Wight operates as an independent charity supporting the work of the national RSPCA.

Less than 10% of its funding comes from the national organisation, meaning local support is vital to keep its services running.

More information about the charity and how to get involved can be found on its website.
