A Royal Mail articulated lorry became stuck on Binstead Road in Ryde this morning (Wednesday) after reportedly driving past multiple road closure signs before attempting to turn around.
The incident happened at around 8.30am near Stonepitts Close on the bend of Binstead Road.
The vehicle, which had just left the Royal Mail delivery office in Ryde and was heading towards the ferry terminal for a return to the mainland, encountered the full road closure currently in place for improvement works.
With 24-hour closures on Binstead Road continuing until the end of January, diversions are clearly signposted for motorists.
However, it is understood the lorry driver passed two separate road closed signs before realising no further progress could be made.
While trying to reverse and manoeuvre the vehicle, the lorry became stuck—partially mounting a grass bank and blocking part of the carriageway.
Drivers are being reminded once again to follow official diversion routes and observe road closure signage while improvement works continue throughout January.
UPDATE 12.55pm:
An Isle of Wight Radio listener has informed us that the lorry has now been cleared from the area.
