A charity cycling event inspired by the loss of five friends to brain cancer is returning to the Isle of Wight this summer to raise money and awareness for Brain Tumour Research.

The ninth annual Ride For Hope will take place on Saturday 6 June, bringing together cyclists from across the UK in support of people affected by brain tumours.

The event was founded by Simon Tier, from Fareham, who has raised more than £100,000 for the charity after losing five friends to brain cancer since 2014.

Participants can choose from several Island routes, ranging from a 68-mile challenge to a 136-mile dual circuit.

Organisers say more riders are needed this year after registrations fell below previous levels.

Simon said the event remains a tribute to those lost to the disease and a way of supporting research into brain tumours, which receive only a small proportion of national cancer research funding.

The ride also honours supporters including Richard Preston, who died in 2025 after living with glioblastoma for more than a decade and had become a familiar figure at the annual event.
