A new residential home providing ‘vital children’s accommodation’ could open in the Isle of Wight’s Bay Area.
Next Wave Care Group (NWCG) submitted a change of use proposal to County Hall for a conversion of a house in Sandown.
The ‘fully insured, multi-disciplinary’ provider says it offers a ‘range of supported accommodation and children’s residential care across the Isle of Wight’.
“NWCP provides warm, safe, and therapeutic environments that empower young people to flourish independently into adulthood,” a Statement of Purpose from the firm says.
“Our services support a diverse cohort of young people, including looked-after children, separated children seeking asylum (unaccompanied minors), care leavers, those with complex needs and those with learning disabilities.”
A Planning Statement prepared by the Andrew White Planning Consultancy says:
“The proposed accommodation would comprise four bedrooms (accommodating a total of four children) three of which would be en-suites.
“There would be a main bathroom, sensory room, downstairs WC, lounge, dining room, kitchen and carers/staff room.
“The important point to note is that the exterior and interior of the property will not change as it is important to maintain the characteristics of being a single-family home and not to feel institutionalised.”
It goes on to state the application ‘carries significant support from the children’s social care department within the Isle of Wight Council’.
The council’s public consultation on proposal 25/01000/FUL closes on August 15 and a decision is due on September 8.
