Residents and staff at Orchard House Care Home marked World Book Day with a creative celebration that included a literary-themed trip to the seaside.

Team members dressed up as famous characters from classic books, including Hercule Poirot, Miss Marple and Little Red Riding Hood – complete with basket and the Big Bad Wolf.

Residents joined in the fun before heading out for a walk along the seafront in Shanklin, where they enjoyed fresh sea air, coastal views and time together outside the home.

During the outing the group also stopped for coffee at a local café, where staff were amused to serve a drink to “Miss Marple”.

Katie Schlepp said the day was a big success.

“World Book Day gave us a wonderful opportunity to bring stories to life for our residents.
"Dressing up and getting out to the seaside created such a joyful atmosphere, and our residents absolutely loved the experience.
"Moments like these help spark conversation, laughter and wonderful memories.”

The trip formed part of Orchard House’s life-enrichment programme, which aims to create meaningful experiences for residents while maintaining strong links with the local community.
