Small maritime businesses on the Solent are being offered support to attend one of the world’s leading industry events.

Solent Freeport has partnered with Maritime Solent to help four companies take part in SMM Hamburg this September.

Eligible firms can access professional backing and grants of up to £1,000 to help cover costs, as well as a place within a shared exhibition space in the UK Pavilion. The event attracts around 49,000 visitors and more than 2,200 exhibitors from across the global maritime sector.

Brian Johnson, chair of Solent Freeport, said: “This event provides direct access for Solent-based maritime technology businesses to international shipyards, suppliers and emerging technologies.

“It creates opportunities for export growth, collaboration and visibility in key global markets.”

He added the initiative is designed to support smaller companies with ambitions to expand internationally.

Businesses must have fewer than 50 employees, be based in the Solent region and demonstrate a clear export strategy to apply.

Successful applicants will also receive on-the-ground support and preparation ahead of the three-day event.

The deadline for applications is May 29.
