Volunteers from Badger Trust Isle of Wight responded to two separate incidents involving injured badgers over the weekend.
An adult badger was found at the roadside with serious injuries believed to have been caused by a vehicle.
Members of the public stayed with the animal and alerted volunteers, preventing it from being struck again.
The badger was taken to a local vet but, due to the severity of its injuries, was sadly put to sleep on welfare grounds.
In a separate incident, a young cub was discovered alone near a footpath.
Again, members of the public remained with the animal until help arrived.
The cub was taken into care and treated for the cold before being assessed by vets.
After receiving overnight care, she was found to be alert and responding well.
Volunteers initially searched for her sett in the hope of a reunion, but the decision was later taken to transfer her to Secret World Wildlife Rescue, where she will receive specialist care before eventually being released back into the wild.
The group has thanked members of the public for their quick actions, as well as local vets and animal charities who supported the rescue effort.
Residents are being reminded to report any sightings of lone badger cubs to ensure they receive appropriate care.
