Olivia And Muhammad Remain Nation's Favourite Baby Names As New Trends Emerge

Olivia and Muhammad have once again topped the list of the most popular baby names in England and Wales, according to the latest figures.

Data published by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) shows Olivia retained its position as the number one girls' name for 2025, while Muhammad remained the most popular choice for boys for the second consecutive year.

There was movement elsewhere in the rankings, with Lily overtaking Amelia to become the second most popular girls' name, while Leo climbed into the boys' top three for the first time, replacing Oliver, which slipped to sixth.

For girls, the top five names were:

• Olivia

• Lily

• Amelia

• Isla

• Florence

For boys, the top five were:

• Muhammad

• Noah

• Leo

• Luca

Several names enjoyed a surge in popularity over the past year. Ada climbed an impressive 54 places, while Maeve and Charlotte each rose 24 places in the girls' rankings.

Among boys' names, Roman jumped 33 places, Harry climbed 26 and Finley rose 25 places.

The ONS also revealed a number of newcomers breaking into the top 100.

Eliana, Gracie, Anaya, Alba, Marnie, Lilah and Frankie all featured for girls, while Vincent, Carter, Stanley and Ruben entered the boys' list.

Not every name enjoyed the same success. Jessica, once a staple of school registers, dropped out of the top 100 altogether, along with Ellie and Amelie. For boys, Bodhi, Grayson and Brody also fell out of the rankings.

Regional differences remain across England and Wales. Olivia was the most popular girls' name in the South East and Wales, while Muhammad was the top boys' name across four English regions but ranked only 34th in Wales, where Noah took the top spot.

The figures are based on babies whose births were registered in England and Wales during 2025.
