A 12-year-old equestrian from Niton has been crowned Endurance GB Junior Champion after an exceptional 2025 season.

Alice Critchison claimed the national title following a series of high-scoring performances with her pony, Ashley Kate – known as Pumpkin. Endurance riding is a demanding long-distance sport that tests both horse and rider across challenging terrain, with strict veterinary checks in place to protect horse welfare.

Throughout the season, Alice travelled across the UK to compete, supported by Wightlink travel sponsorship through the Isle of Wight Council’s Talented Athlete Scheme.

Her dedication also saw her named Endurance GB Young Volunteer of the Year.

Alice has now secured a place on the 2026 Talented Athlete Scheme, which will continue to provide travel assistance and access to a range of training and support services.

Wightlink’s Partnership Marketing Manager, Sam Woodman, praised Alice’s achievement, saying she is a “very deserving champion” and wished her and Pumpkin every success for the 2026 season.

Alice said she was proud of what she and Pumpkin achieved and thanked her family for their support, adding that the scheme has been invaluable in helping her compete on the mainland.
