Nine New Homes Approved For Wootton Bridge

Plans to build nine new homes on a field in Wootton Bridge have been given the go-ahead by the Isle of Wight Council.

The development, next to 115 Station Road, will include nine three-bedroom properties, a new vehicle access and landscaping.

The council says the scheme would be appropriate for the site and its surroundings, while also helping to address local demand for housing.

Four objections were submitted during the planning process, with concerns raised about wildlife, traffic, overdevelopment and whether there is sufficient demand for the properties.

The presence of bats, red squirrels and a range of bird species was highlighted by nearby residents, who also warned that removing trees and hedgerows could affect local wildlife.

Concerns were also raised about additional vehicles accessing Station Road and pressure on local infrastructure and services.

Wootton Bridge Parish Council previously pointed out that the plans do not include any one- or two-bedroom properties, despite those being identified as the greatest local housing need.

However, planning officers said the area's housing needs assessment also identified demand for three-bedroom homes.

The council concluded that the development would not cause unacceptable overlooking or loss of privacy for neighbouring properties.

Planning permission has been granted subject to 20 conditions.

These include measures covering drainage and flood risk, highway safety, biodiversity, environmental protection and the appearance of the development.

The conditions also aim to prevent excessive surface water run-off and ensure the scheme does not have an unacceptable impact on the surrounding area.
