Residents at Vecta House Care Home enjoyed a nostalgic and moving afternoon this week as they welcomed local servicemen for a special visit focused on shared history and military service.

The event was organised in partnership with the local charity Wight Forces, bringing together veterans living at the home with serving and former members of the Armed Forces.

Several guests attended in full uniform, bringing medals, historical photographs and military memorabilia to share with residents.

The afternoon featured an engaging exchange of stories, with visitors reflecting on their service careers while residents spoke about their own experiences in the forces.

In one particularly poignant moment, a resident shared his original RAF jacket and personal photo albums, prompting an emotional conversation with the visiting servicemen.

Wight Forces, a newly established charity, supports serving personnel, veterans and their families, offering assistance during the transition from military to civilian life, as well as tailored support for military families living on the Island.

Tanya Everson, Lifestyle Leader at Vecta House, described the visit as “a truly heart-warming afternoon,” adding that seeing residents share their service histories was wonderful.

She thanked Wight Forces and the visiting servicemen for their time and generosity, saying the home looks forward to working with the charity again in the future.
