New 'Self Build' Home Could Be Built Near River Medina

A new ‘high quality’ self-build house could be built near the Isle of Wight’s River Medina.

Peter Fairclough has asked planners for permission to construct a detached two-bedroom home with a garage on land next to East Cowes Road.

As a self-build project, the owner of the proposed dwelling ‘inputted’ into its design before submission, according to a statement from Paul Stack Planning.

The proposal will remove an existing caravan at the site and ‘enhance’ the ‘character and quality’ of the local environment.

“The property would comprise a kitchen/living/dining room and bedroom at ground floor level with a further bedroom and mezzanine, en-suite and dressing room facilities above.

“In terms of external appearance, the dwelling would comprise larch/cedar cladding with low level Purbeck stone plinth.

“The double garage would be of matching design and materials and provide a home office above for the applicant.

“The property to the northeast adjacent the site is a Grade II listed building (3 Brickfield Cottages).

“The official listing describes this property as one of a range of three cottages built in 1853, designed by the Prince Consort, in Gothic style, to house workers employed by the adjoining Queen’s brickyard.”

County Hall’s public consultation on application 25/01315/FUL ends on October 10 and a decision is due on November 7.
