A new restaurant could be coming to a former Isle of Wight town centre jewellers.
Sinan Keskin has made a planning application to County Hall for a change of use of 165 High Street in Ryde.
He is looking to open a ‘relaxed bistro type venue’ at the premises, previously home to a Caring Cancer Trust shop.
Prior to its use as a charity shop, 165 High Street housed Hobbs Jewellers which closed in August 2017.
Caring Cancer Trust vacated the town centre property at the end of 2024, according to a submitted Design and Access Statement.
Mr Keskin said:
“Having run a very successful and popular restaurant on Union Street for more than ten years, I am now open to new challenges.
“Our existing location is well considered and has a wide and varied customer base of both regular locals and visiting tourists and professional people.
“My plan for this location would be to extend this and create a relaxed bistro type venue that I believe would encourage footfall to this part of the high street.
“It is discouraging to see the amount of high street locations that are currently either closed or given over to charitable endeavours as there seems to be little draw to this part of town.
“My proposal will require much time, energy and funding but I have lived on the Island for many years, having grown to love it and consider it home.”
The council’s public consultation on application 25/00728/FUL closes on June 20 and a decision is expected on July 16.
