Multiple Road Closures Planned Across Isle Of Wight Over Coming Weeks

Drivers across the Isle of Wight are being warned of a number of temporary road closures and restrictions as maintenance and utility works take place over the coming weeks.


Contractor Island Roads says several roads will be shut at various times throughout March, with diversion routes signposted locally.


Upcoming Closures

  • Manor Road, Wroxall – Closed for its entire length from 08:00 on Monday 23 March until 18:00 on Wednesday 25 March for utility works.

  • Mount Pleasant Road, Newport – Closed 09:00 Tuesday 24 March to 18:00 Friday 27 March for utility works.

  • West Street, Seaview – Closed 08:00 Tuesday 24 March to 16:00 Thursday 26 March for utility works.

  • Woodside Avenue, Newchurch – Closed 09:00 Monday 23 March to 15:00 Tuesday 31 March for utility works.


Night-Time Restrictions In Ryde


A one-way restriction will be in place along Queens Road, Ryde, operating westbound only between 18:30 and 06:00 for 1–2 nights between Friday 20 March and Friday 1 May while traffic signal loops are installed.


During the same overnight programme, the following roads may also close for one or two nights within that period:

  • Argyle Street, Ryde

  • Green Street, Ryde

  • Great Preston Road, Ryde

  • Castle Road, Ventnor


Short-Term Closures


Several roads will also close temporarily for maintenance or repair works, typically for a single shift within the stated dates:


  • Highwood Lane, Rookley – Friday 13 March

  • Chine Avenue, Shanklin – One shift between 16–18 March

  • Woodvale Road, Gurnard – One shift between 16–18 March

  • Bridge Road, Yarmouth – Two shifts between 17–19 March

  • Albany Road, East Cowes – One shift between 17–19 March

  • Appleford Road, Chale – One shift between 17–19 March

  • Beacon Alley, Godshill – One shift between 18–20 March

  • Lessland Lane, Godshill – One shift between 18–20 March

  • Pell Lane, Ryde – One shift between 18–20 March

  • Wilton Park Road, Shanklin – Closed 09:00 Monday 16 March to 18:00 Wednesday 18 March.

  • Whitcombe Road, Shanklin – Closed 08:00 Monday 16 March to 16:00 Friday 20 March.

  • St Thomas Street, Ryde – Closed 09:00 Monday 16 March to 18:00 Wednesday 18 March.

  • Sandy Lane, Newport – Closed 09:30–15:30 on Friday 13 March.

  • Ventnor Road, Whitwell – Closed 09:30–15:30 on Tuesday 17 March.


Planned Works Later In March


Further closures expected between 23–27 March include:

  • Blacklands Lane, Newport

  • Cheverton Shute, Shorwell

  • Week Lane, Ventnor

  • Broad Lane and Mill Lane, Brighstone

  • Station Road, Ningwood

  • Dungewood Lane, Shorwell

  • Bridge Road, Cowes

  • St Thomas Street, Ryde (additional works)


Cycle Route Closure


The cycle track between Sandown and Newport will also be closed from Monday 16 March until Friday 27 March while structural works are carried out.


Motorists and cyclists are advised to follow diversion routes displayed on local signage. Some works may be affected by adverse weather.
