Islanders who are missing someone this Christmas are invited to honour their memory at Mountbatten Isle of Wight’s annual Light up a Life event on Sunday 7 December.
The remembrance evening, held at Mountbatten on Halberry Lane in Newport, offers a peaceful space to reflect and celebrate the lives of loved ones who have died.
People can make a donation to dedicate a light on Mountbatten’s remembrance tree, and take part in a candle-lighting service featuring festive music and readings.
Brian Rayner, from Newport, who will be remembering his wife Jan and daughter Nikki, said the tradition brings him great comfort.
“Dedicating a light is a simple but powerful way to keep the memory of those we love close at Christmas,” he said.
“Each year, when I see the lights shining, I feel connected to Nikki and Jan, and to a community of people who understand what it means to miss someone dear.”
The event is open to everyone, whether or not they have received care from Mountbatten.
After the service, guests can enjoy mince pies and warm drinks in the John Cheverton Centre, with a chance to share memories and support one another.
Names dedicated by midnight on Tuesday 2 December will be displayed during the service. Those unable to attend can still dedicate a light and take part from afar.
Free parking will be available at Seaclose Park, with a shuttle bus running to the hospice.
Limited accessible parking will be provided on-site.
