Pedestrian safety remains a serious concern on local roads, with hundreds of people injured in collisions across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight over the past 12 months.

According to new figures, 370 pedestrians were recorded as casualties in road traffic accidents in 2024/25. This included five fatalities, 114 serious injuries and 225 slight injuries.

Police classify pedestrian injuries according to severity, from slight through to serious or fatal, with each incident highlighting the risks faced by both road users and those on foot.

Road Traffic Accident Manager for JF Law, Tracey Chick, said:

“Each road traffic incident involving pedestrians represents a moment of distress and potential life-altering consequences for those involved.
"If you have been involved in an accident, your safety should be the immediate priority, before exchanging details with the other involved parties, and reporting the incident to the police.”

Pedestrian accidents remain one of the most pressing issues on UK roads, often raising wider questions about driver behaviour, pedestrian awareness and how best to improve safety.
