Plans have been submitted to add 23 extra parking spaces to a proposed Aldi supermarket in Ryde, taking the total to 137.

The discount supermarket at Cothey Way was approved by the Isle of Wight Council in March, following 300 letters of support.

The original plans included 114 parking spaces and 12 electric vehicle charging points, alongside landscaping and other infrastructure.

Aldi has now applied to increase the parking provision, with planning documents stating the change would reduce the risk of drivers parking informally elsewhere in the surrounding business park.

The application, submitted by Zesta, includes a revised car park layout and associated landscaping and infrastructure work.

The planning statement says the increased provision would better align with the council's parking guidance and help the store operate effectively.

Aldi previously said the new supermarket would improve access to its range of low-cost products and give shoppers more choice, potentially reducing the need to travel further afield.

Members of the public can comment on the latest application, reference 26/01432/FUL, until November 13.

A decision is scheduled for December 9.
