Medina College Parents Speak Out Against "Ridiculous" Proposed Timetable Changes

Parents and carers of pupils at Medina College have raised their concerns following a planned change to the outline of the school day from September.
The changes would see lunch breaks delayed until at least 1.45pm, with an earlier break ending shortly before midday.
The letter informing them of the changes, which was sent out by the faculty last week, can be read below:

One parent said:
"I think its a ridiculous idea - the younger year groups will get the first half of the break to eat, so (pupils from) year nine upwards will actually be eating at 2pm!
"They didn't ask parents' opinions, just the staff.
"My daughter joining in September struggles with a lot of energy, so waiting until 11.15am to have a break is unfair to the children that can't help their energy levels.
"(This could) surely make classrooms more hectic."
Another perturbed parent added:
"(The changes) teach children to not be in tune with their bodies."
Plans are now afoot for a meeting between parents/carers and those on the school board, with one concerned parent commenting:
"My view is that it’s ridiculous and I’m intending on requesting a meeting with the Head and Governors (as a result)."
In response to the criticism, Medina College issued the following statement:
"We'd like to clarify the proposed structure of the school day, as some concerns have been raised.
"The day includes two break periods, with hot food available (during) both.
"This setup reduces the time between eating opportunities and supports students' focus and wellbeing.
"Free Breakfast Club runs until 8.40am; break one starts at 11.15am with hot food and snacks.
"Break two follows around two hours later, also with hot food options.
"The model is already in place in many schools nationwide and has shown positive outcomes.
"We appreciate your understanding and continued support."
