A man who suffered a serious arm injury after smashing a car window in Freshwater has been arrested by police.

Emergency services were called just after 6.30pm on Tuesday (12 August) to reports of a man assaulting another man and damaging vehicles on Amos Hill, off The Avenue.

During the incident, the man – from Totland Bay – sustained a significant injury to his arm.

Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance landed at nearby Colwell Common to assist paramedics from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service.

He was taken to St Mary’s Hospital in Newport by land ambulance, and did not require transfer to the mainland for further treatment. Police cordoned off Amos Hill for a time while enquiries took place.

Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary has confirmed that the 37-year-old has been arrested on suspicion of criminal damage, common assault, and intentional strangulation.

He remains in custody.
