Drivers in Ryde face disruption next month as two of the town’s busiest roads are set to close for resurfacing and reconstruction works.

  • Green Street will be shut from October 6 for around seven working days.

  • Queen’s Road will follow from October 20, also for seven working days, timed to coincide with the school half-term break.

Both schemes will involve deep excavations to fix underlying issues that have caused the road surfaces to deteriorate faster than expected.

Because of this, the roads will remain closed around the clock during the works.

Pedestrian access will be maintained, and if conditions allow, the roads may temporarily reopen at weekends.

An Island Roads spokesperson said:

“It is sadly not possible to undertake work of this nature in busy roads without causing some disruption.
"However, addressing the issues that have caused deterioration will hopefully reduce the need for future maintenance.”

Information boards will be placed on-site before work begins, and residents will receive letters with further details.

Updates will also be provided on Island Roads’ X (formerly Twitter) feed.

The company has warned that timings could change depending on weather or ground conditions.
