Long queues are building at key ferry crossings this afternoon (Monday) as large numbers of people attempt to leave the Isle of Wight.

At Cowes, the Red Jet foot passenger service is reported to be experiencing significant delays, with queues stretching back through the town and as far as Rosalie’s.

Meanwhile in Yarmouth, motorists are facing lengthy waiting times for the car ferry, with queues reportedly extending back over the bridge as traffic builds on surrounding roads.

Today comes the day after the Isle of Wight Festival came to a close, although there is no suggestion this is the sole cause of the disruption, with demand for off-Island travel typically high at the start of the working week.

Travellers are being advised to allow extra time for their journeys and to expect delays if heading off the Island this afternoon.

Operators are working to manage the flow of passengers and vehicles, but congestion is expected to continue during peak departure periods.
