Isle of Wight East MP Joe Robertson has hosted a successful Jobs and Careers Fair in Sandown, aimed at promoting employment and training opportunities across the Island.
The event welcomed more than 100 people of all ages, offering the chance to speak directly with employers and training providers about a wide range of career paths — from first-time jobs to mid-career changes.
Organisations in attendance included the NHS, Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary, Southern Water, Isle of Wight Chamber of Commerce and Visit Isle of Wight, alongside local businesses and transport providers.
Training and education advice was also available from Isle of Wight College, HTP Training and Solent Careers Hub.
One attendee, Scott Davey, said the event had broadened his horizons, adding it had given him “good food for thought” about his future.
Mr Robertson said the jobs market remains challenging, but events like this help connect Islanders with employers and training opportunities.
He added that he hopes to organise similar events in the future following positive feedback from both visitors and stallholders.
Separately, Mr Robertson has recently been appointed to the Centre for Social Justice’s Midlife Commission, alongside broadcaster Angela Rippon and entrepreneur Liz Earle.
