Television presenter Jeremy Clarkson has revealed he has been diagnosed with what he describes as an “aggressive” form of prostate cancer.
The 66-year-old shared the news during the final episodes of the fifth series of Clarkson’s Farm, which premiered overnight on Amazon Prime Video.
Clarkson, who has been running Diddly Squat Farm in Oxfordshire since 2019, told co-stars Kaleb Cooper and Charlie Ireland that he had received the diagnosis in May.
Speaking on the programme, Clarkson said the cancer had been detected at a very early stage and that he expected to make a recovery, although he would be unable to work for a period while undergoing treatment.
In the series, he later reveals he has undergone surgery to remove part of his prostate.
“I won’t know whether it’s worked or not until November probably,” he said.
The programme also shows Clarkson in hospital, where he explains that some aspects of his treatment had not gone entirely to plan.
The presenter, best known for Top Gear, The Grand Tour and Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?, warned fans ahead of the episodes that they would be a difficult watch.
The diagnosis comes two years after Clarkson underwent a heart procedure following what he described as a sudden deterioration in his health.
Since launching Clarkson’s Farm in 2021, he has become a prominent voice on farming issues and has campaigned against government plans to introduce inheritance tax on some agricultural land.
Despite the seriousness of his diagnosis, Clarkson told viewers he remained hopeful about his recovery and his return for a future series of the popular farming programme.
