Eligible residents on the Isle of Wight are being reminded to return their Utility Support Scheme claim forms by the end of February to ensure they receive payments before the end of March.

The scheme, run by the Isle of Wight Council, offers financial help to older residents struggling with the cost of electricity, gas and water bills.

Who Is Eligible For Support

In November, letters were sent to residents of pensionable age who receive Local Council Tax Support but do not qualify for Pension Credit, inviting them to apply.

Those eligible can receive:

  • £150 for residents aged 66 to 79

  • £50 for residents aged 80 and over

The payments are designed to supplement the Government’s Winter Fuel Payment, with combined support reaching up to £350 for some households.

Payments Being Issued Through Winter

Payments began in December and will continue until March 2026.

The council says all eligible residents who return their forms before the deadline will receive their support by the end of March.

Ian Lloyd, Strategic Manager for Partnerships and Support Services at the council, said:

“We know many households are feeling the pressure of winter energy costs.
“We want to reassure everyone who has applied that payments are being issued across the winter period, and all eligible residents will receive their support before the end of March.
"Returning claim forms promptly helps us process applications without delay.”

Support will be provided through prepaid cards or vouchers, depending on how households usually pay their utility bills.

Further Help Available For Residents

Residents who are not eligible for the scheme but are struggling with utility costs can still access support and advice from The Footprint Trust, which offers independent guidance to Island households facing financial hardship.
