As Volunteer Week unfolds across the UK, the Isle of Wight Foodbank is extending its heartfelt thanks to the more than 120 dedicated volunteers who are the beating heart of the organisation.

Their compassion, time, and tireless energy make a vital difference to hundreds of individuals and families across the Island.

Each month, Isle of Wight Foodbank supports around 500 people who find themselves in crisis.

“Our volunteers are more than just helping hands – they are a source of hope and dignity for people in their most difficult moments,” said Kay Lewis, Foodbank Manager, Isle of Wight.
“Their contribution can’t be measured just in hours – they are a lifeline to the local community.”

The foodbank’s mission is not only to address immediate hunger, but also to support guests toward long-term stability.

About 85% of people who use the service need it only once or twice.

Volunteers help connect guests to other organisations for financial advice, debt support, and mental health services – offering a way forward as well as a helping hand.

Isle of Wight Foodbank operates as a crisis organisation, offering emergency support to people when they need it most. Without the generosity and selfless service of its volunteers – who sort donations, pack parcels, offer a listening ear, and ensure dignity is preserved – this critical work wouldn’t be possible.
