The Isle of Wight College has confirmed it will remain open during planned strike action by the University and College Union (UCU) later this week.

Strike action is scheduled to take place on Wednesday 14, Thursday 15 and Friday 16 January, but the college says most lessons are expected to run as normal and students should attend according to their usual timetables.

The college has acknowledged that some teaching may be disrupted if staff take part in the strike.

Where lessons cannot go ahead, alternative arrangements will be put in place, including supervised study spaces on campus.

Students studying at CECAMM will be based at the Newport campus for all lessons during the strike period.

A free minibus service will operate between CECAMM and the Newport campus to support travel.

Principal and CEO Ros Parker said the college recognises the concerns raised by staff over long-term funding pressures in the further education sector and respects their right to take industrial action.

She added that the college has implemented a four per cent pay award in line with Association of Colleges recommendations and is working to reduce staff workload where possible.

The college says its priority remains minimising disruption and ensuring students continue to feel supported during the strike period.
