A prominent Isle of Wight businessman and community champion has been recognised in the King’s Birthday Honours.
Geoffrey Paul Underwood DL, founder and Chief Executive of Calbourne-based Inflight Peripherals Limited, has been appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) for services to the technology industry.
Mr Underwood established Inflight Peripherals on the Isle of Wight and has led the company’s growth into an internationally recognised supplier of specialist technology and equipment.
Alongside his business achievements, he has played a significant role in supporting Island communities. In 2015, he founded WightAID, an initiative that channels funding from local businesses to charities and community groups across the Isle of Wight. He has also served as President of the Isle of Wight Chamber of Commerce and was appointed High Sheriff of the Isle of Wight in 2019.
His award forms part of the King’s Birthday Honours, which recognise individuals who have made outstanding contributions to their professions, communities and public life.
Prime Minister Keir Starmer said the honours celebrate people whose dedication, resilience and commitment to others are helping to strengthen communities across the country.
Mr Underwood is the only recipient listed with an Isle of Wight address in this year’s honours.
Broadcaster Anneka Rice, who has a home in Seaview, has also been recognised, receiving an MBE for services to charity and broadcasting.
