The Isle of Wight’s independent drinks industry is gaining further recognition in Westminster, with Ale of Wight now being served at the House of Commons’ Strangers’ Bar.

The ale, brewed by Goddards Brewery, joins a growing list of Island-produced drinks available in Parliament, following the introduction of Isle of Wight Gin and Mermaid Gin late last year.

Suppliers to the Strangers’ Bar can be nominated by Members of Parliament, and Isle of Wight West MP Richard Quigley played a key role in securing a place for Ale of Wight.

Mr Quigley said he was pleased to support another local business, highlighting Goddards’ long-standing role in Island life and the quality of products being produced locally.

The move comes as part of wider efforts to promote Isle of Wight businesses on a national stage, particularly within the food and drink sector.

It also follows recent work by Mr Quigley to support Island pubs, including campaigning for business rates relief.

His efforts were recently recognised in Parliament, where a Treasury minister described him as a strong advocate for businesses in his constituency.

The addition of Ale of Wight to the Strangers’ Bar menu is seen as another boost for the Island’s growing reputation for high-quality, locally made produce.

Bob Simpson, Isle of Wight general manager for Powder Monkey, said it was a proud moment to see the ale on offer in Westminster, describing it as a celebration of the Island and its producers.
