Island residents are being asked to share their views on the Isle of Wight Council’s Local Council Tax Support (LCTS) scheme, which helps around 9,500 low-income households across the Island.
The public consultation invites feedback on plans to maintain the current scheme, which offers up to a 75% reduction on council tax bills depending on income and household circumstances.
The council also intends to keep its Exceptional Hardship Policy (EHP), providing additional help for those facing severe financial difficulties.
At present, couples with children earning up to £315 per week, single parents with one child earning up to £180 per week, and single adults earning up to £95 per week can qualify for the maximum discount.
Chris Ward, Director of Finance for the Isle of Wight Council, said:
“The consultation is open to all residents, not just those receiving support.
"It’s vital that as many people as possible take part, as the feedback will help shape next year’s council tax decisions and overall budget.”
The LCTS consultation runs alongside the council’s annual budget consultation, which asks residents for their views on local spending priorities.
Mr Ward added:
“We understand the financial pressures many households are under and want to support Islanders wherever possible.”
The consultation is open until 3 November and can be completed online at www.iow.gov.uk/lctsconsultation
