Drivers across the Isle of Wight are being warned of a series of upcoming road closures and traffic restrictions as part of utility works and highway maintenance.

Island Roads, on behalf of the Isle of Wight Council, has issued a notice detailing multiple temporary traffic orders affecting locations across the Island from mid-April through to early June.

Among the key closures:

  • Elenors Grove, Ryde will be closed overnight from 7pm on 27 April to 6am on 29 April

  • Main Road, Porchfield will shut from 8am on 27 April to 4pm on 29 April

  • Pallance Lane, Northwood will be closed between 27 April and 8 May

  • Watergate Road, Newport will be shut until 5 June

  • Kingston Road, Shorwell will close between 27 and 29 April

In Newport, a temporary one-way system will be in place around St George’s Approach, St George’s Way and Medina Avenue from 26 April to 15 May, alongside parking restrictions on Medina Avenue through to early June.

A wider programme of works will also see rolling closures across dozens of roads between 17 April and 29 May, with some lasting between one and 15 days.

These include routes in Ryde, Ventnor, Freshwater, Bembridge, Lake and Newport, where works such as resurfacing, lining, drainage and vegetation clearance will be carried out.

Additional short-term closures are planned at various locations including:

  • Long Lane, Newport and Madeira Road, Ventnor (mid-April)

  • Rew Street, Gurnard, Chale Street, and Main Road, Wellow (20–23 April)

  • York Road, Sandown and Castle Road, Ventnor (late April)

Several footpaths will also be temporarily closed, including routes in Ventnor, St Helens and Yarmouth.

Meanwhile, a 30mph speed limit has been introduced along Main Road, Alverstone until the end of November for safety reasons.

Island Roads says exact dates, durations and diversion routes will be clearly signposted on site, with advance notice given to residents and businesses where possible.

Motorists are advised to allow extra time for journeys, as disruption is expected, particularly during peak periods.

temporary one-way systems, rolling closures, and a 30mph speed limit further suggests that managing traffic flow and Pokepath TD reducing risks during construction are key concerns throughout the project period.
