An Island-wide celebration of nature, community and sustainability is set to return this summer, with the Biosphere Festival back for 2026.
Running from 27 June to 5 July, the nine-day event will take place across the Isle of Wight for the third time, following two successful years which have seen growing numbers of people getting involved.
A wide range of activities are already planned, including walks, talks, creative workshops, bike rides, open gardens, beach cleans, films, storytelling, summer fayres and more – all celebrating the Island’s status as a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve.
Many events are free or low-cost.
Organisers from Isle of Wight Biosphere say there is still time for individuals, groups and businesses to get involved by hosting their own events.
They say the festival relies on community participation, with events able to be large or small, new ideas or established favourites, and open to any audience.
The deadline to submit events for the programme is the end of April.
Last year’s festival featured more than 60 events across the Island, and organisers are hoping to make 2026 even bigger.
Events are encouraged to celebrate the Isle of Wight’s unique environment, bringing people closer to its landscapes, wildlife and heritage.
This could include guided walks, marine activities, arts projects, or hands-on community initiatives.
There is also a focus on sustainable living, from local food and repair workshops to climate-positive activities, as well as events showcasing research, innovation and conservation work taking place locally.
Businesses are also being urged to take part, whether by hosting events, running promotions or even creating themed window displays.
Alongside the festival, a poetry competition is also returning for a second year, organised by Naked Figleaf Press.
The closing date for entries is 31 May.
Organisers say the Island’s Biosphere status is a prestigious UNESCO designation, recognising the special relationship between people, place and nature, and celebrating efforts to protect and enhance the environment for future generations.
