The Island Line will close for essential improvement work during November, with buses replacing trains.

The line between Ryde Pier Head and Shanklin will be closed from Saturday 31 October to Sunday 15 November, while engineers carry out track repairs and improve rail alignment.

A second closure will then affect the line between Ryde Pier Head and Ryde St Johns Road from Monday 16 to Sunday 29 November, when around 700 metres of new track will be installed.

The work by South Western Railway and Network Rail Wessex is aimed at improving reliability and reducing the need for short-notice maintenance.

During the first closure, replacement buses will operate between Ryde Pier Head and Ryde Esplanade, and between Ryde Esplanade and Shanklin, calling at Ryde St Johns Road, Brading, Sandown and Lake.

During the second closure, buses will replace trains between Ryde Esplanade and Ryde St Johns Road, while trains will continue between Ryde St Johns Road and Shanklin.

Customers are being advised to check journey planners and allow extra time.

As part of the work, 30 track panels being removed from the Island Line will be donated to the Isle of Wight Steam Railway.
