Plans have been submitted for four one-bedroom flats on unused land near the Isle of Wight’s prison in Camp Hill.

Antony Lewis has lodged an outline application for a residential building at Norman Court, Quarry View.

The proposed market homes would have open-plan living and kitchen areas, shower rooms and associated parking.

An ecological report says the site has several mature oak trees and is close to woodland habitats, with protected species including hedgehogs, reptiles and nesting birds potentially affected.

Recommendations include protecting nearby trees, using sensitive lighting and installing bat and bird boxes.

A financial contribution towards the Solent Recreation Mitigation Strategy has also been recommended.

The council’s consultation on application 26/01370/OUT runs until November 6, with a decision due by November 27.
