A small hair salon could soon be operating from a garden cabin in Newport, after the owner submitted an application to the Isle of Wight Council.
Ellie Byerley, who runs By Ells, has applied for a change of use at her property on 21 Albany Road, Hunnyhill.
The salon would see around four to five clients per day, with appointments scheduled Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday from 9am to 6pm, Thursday from 10am to 8pm, and Saturdays from 10am to 4pm – although Ellie says these times may change.
In her application, Ellie explained:
“The cabin will be used as a small salon where I would work with one client at a time and have approximately four or five clients per working day.
"We have a driveway where clients can park, and the property is very close to a main bus route for non-drivers.”
She added that running her business from home would allow her greater flexibility and the opportunity to provide a more personal, tailored experience for her clients.
The size of the cabin will remain the same as the current structure.
A public consultation on the application 26/00179/FUL is open until 7 April, with a decision expected by 28 April.
