An Isle of Wight school is calling on the community to come together in support of a young pupil who has been diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of cancer.

Tula, a Year 1 pupil, is currently receiving treatment for Acute Myeloid Leukaemia (AML) at Southampton Children’s Hospital after being diagnosed in January.

The condition is extremely rare, affecting only around 100 children each year in the UK.

Following an unsuccessful first round of chemotherapy, Tula is now being prepared for a bone marrow transplant at the Royal Marsden Hospital in London.

Her school is asking local businesses, schools and the wider community to support a fundraising effort by taking part in a colourful dress-up day on Friday, March 27.

Supporters are encouraged to wear bright, glittery clothing in exchange for a small donation to her appeal.

The aim is to raise funds to help the family remain close and support Tula throughout her treatment.

The school is also encouraging people to share photos of their colourful outfits to help bring a smile to Tula and show that she is being supported by the community.

Donations can be made via a GoFundMe page set up by the family, and the school says every contribution will make a difference as Tula continues her treatment journey.
