Two Island organisations have been jointly honoured with the King’s Award for Enterprise 2025, recognising the success of the Careers for Young People (CfYP) programme.
The initiative, launched in 2022 by the NHS in partnership with HTP Apprenticeship College, offers 16–18-year-olds a route into health and care careers on the Isle of Wight, including roles within the NHS.
The programme received the King’s Award for Enterprise in the Promoting Opportunity (through social mobility) category earlier this year.
The official presentation took place on Friday 5 December at Newport Minster, led by HM Lord-Lieutenant of the Isle of Wight, Mrs Susie Sheldon.

The citation was read by Deputy Lieutenant Mrs Claire Locke.
Mrs Sheldon said:
“It is a real honour to present these awards on behalf of His Majesty The King.
"The Careers for Young People programme is a truly innovative example of social mobility, providing opportunity for a new generation of young people on the Island.
"It’s a real success story, and everyone involved should feel very proud.”
The ceremony was attended by invited guests, including young people who joined the programme when it first began and who have since progressed into full-time roles within the Island’s health and care sector.

Apprentices Nell O’Brien and Roxy James also spoke, sharing how the project has shaped their futures.
Rachael Randall, founder of HTP Apprenticeship College, added:
“To receive recognition from His Majesty The King is incredible and a highlight of HTP’s 25th anniversary year.
"This programme shows the huge potential of young people on the Island and how apprenticeships can lead to fantastic careers.”
Nicola Longson, from Hampshire and Isle of Wight Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, thanked partners, staff and learners for their support.
“The idea was always to ‘grow our own’ and open new opportunities for young people on the Island,” she said.
“These apprentices are bringing energy and enthusiasm into our teams and helping improve outcomes for our local population. Today is a celebration of all they’ve achieved.”
